Author Grant for the project: 1914-1918-online. - International Encyclopedia of the First World War - GHI Moscow
The German Historical Institute in Moscow has partnered with the international project 1914-1918-online. International Encyclopedia of the First World War (www.1914-1918-online.net). The 1914-1918-online project aims to illustrate the global and regional dimensions of the First World War within the scope of an online encyclopedia. In addition to thematic articles and an overview of current research on the First World War, the encyclopedia will make audio and visual materials available to the public. The encyclopedia is due to be online in 2014 for the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the war as an open access resource.
1914-1918 online is financed by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). The project is run by an international editorial committee led by Professor Dr. Oliver Janz (Free University Berlin). Renowned experts of the First World War are in charge of organizing the encyclopedia's regional sections. The institutional partners of the project include the Free University Berlin, the Bavarian State Library, the German Historical Institute in London, Paris, Rome, Warsaw and Moscow, the Library for Contemporary History in Stuttgart, the University of Birmingham, the Zentrum für Militärgeschichte und Sozialwissenschaften der Bundeswehr in Potsdam and the project CENDARI at Trinity College Dublin. The German Historical Institute in Moscow is responsible for the coordination and supervision of the articles for the section "Russian Empire."
In order to facilitate writing the encyclopedic entries for the section "The Russian Empire in the First World War," the German Historical Institute in Moscow is funding a six-month post-doctoral grant, starting on 1 June 2013. The grantee will be in charge of researching and writing 50-60 short encyclopedic entries in English, each between 250-1,250 words.
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in History, have very good English language skills (spoken and written) and demonstrated knowledge of early twentieth century Russian history, preferably of the First World War. The grantee will receive 1.300 euro per month.
